0 Zumba classes: Getting fit with your friends

No matter what age or gender you are, it is important to stay fit and healthy. By maintaining a good fitness level, you may find yourself sleeping better at night and feeling generally happier throughout the day, as regular exercise is great for your wellbeing. So what is the best way to get fit? While those television ads that tell you 'you can get a 6 pack by using our gym equipment for 3 minutes a day' might seem appealing, you shouldn't be fooled. Getting fit and maintaining a healthy lifestyle requires much more than three minutes on a machine per day, and these machines get debated over regularly.

Exercising in the home (whether on your own gym equipment, or going out for a regular one) is generally hard to keep yourself motivated, and it is only too easy to think 'I've got better stuff to do around the house'. Gym memberships are a popular choice for keeping fit and healthy, but again come with both pros and cons. Unless you've joined the gym on a special deal, gym memberships can end up being quite expensive, some going as high as $25.00 per week ... that's $1,300 per year! Also, unless you hire a personal trainer, it's hard to know what exercises you do are helping which part of your body... therefore choosing the right equipment to the areas you'd like to work on a hard choice.

For those of you who haven't been living under a rock the past few years, you'll have heard of the latest exercise 'Zumba'. Zumba is a Latin-inspired fitness dance that has swept the nation. This fun, action packed, easy-to-follow dance is suitable for all ages and fitness levels, and will help you work on your fitness and shed those unwanted calories. This dancing sensation is also designed to be extremely fun to do, so you don't have to suffer the bore of your average workout routine.

Unlike the gym, Zumba classes in your area already have set timetables - so rather than being on your own exercise routine (which can go up and down depending on your mood), you are more likely to attend every Zumba class. Zumba prices vary between locations, but there is usually a casual visit price and a 10 session price, so once you've visited once and you're happy to continue, you can save money by purchasing a session card.

No matter what your fitness level is, there is a fitness class to suit you. Generally, there are three main types of Zumba classes: Zumba Gold, Zumba Fitness and Zumba Toning. Zumba Gold is for those who have physical limitations, and is the easiest of the 3 classes. Zumba Fitness combines both fast and slow rhythms, easy-to-follow steps and allows intervals throughout the class. And finally, the third class is Zumba Toning, which uses light weight toning sticks which assist in toning your muscles.

Studies have shown that people are more likely to work out when inviting a friend - so choose a friend or two to bring to your first Zumba class, and enjoy the Latin-inspired dance with your mates. Ready to go ahead with your first class? To find out about your local Zumba timetable sessions, contact your local Zumba instructor - they'll be able to tell you which class is best suited to you, and inform you about pricing options.
