There is good reason your mother always told you to eat your broccoli. A single stalk of broccoli contains more than enough vitamin K for one day. Even better, it has twice the daily recommended value of vitamin C. Nutrients such as these contribute to healthy and strong bones, as well as possibly limiting the risk of getting some cancers. To get the most nutritional bang for your broccoli, don't boil it or use the microwave. Use the steamer instead.

Eliminate sugar and use artificial sweeteners. Research has shown that sugar can cause a variety of health problems including heart disease. A sweetener like Stevia or Splenda makes a great substitute when used in cooking or added directly to food. These alternatives will taste exactly the same.

No diet is complete with broccoli. Not only does it have lots of cancer-preventing phytochemicals, but it's full of Vitamins A, C, K, fiber and lots of minerals. For best preparation, try microwaving or steaming. Do not overcook broccoli.

Eating more smaller meals spaced throughout the day is more nutritionally sound than eating three larger meals. This approach allows your body to digest your food more efficiently. It also helps you to feel full and therefore avoid overdoing it. You have nothing to lose by trying it.

Instead of feeding your children unhealthy french fries, offer them a nutritional baked potato. You can cut the potatoes down the middle and decorate the cut sides with veggies, cheese, and other toppings to create silly faces.

Proper nutrition guidelines say that you need to make sure you drink plenty of water in order to stay healthy and hydrated. Our bodies have a high water content, so proper hydration is important. Eight average size glasses of water is the common recommendation for daily consumption.

If you want to eat less meat, but are worried about not getting enough protein, you can substitute with legumes and beans. If you enjoy making Cuban dishes, be sure to use black beans. Additionally, you can substitute lentils for part or all of the meat in a number of dishes such as tacos. Other ways to use lentils include making bean soup, burritos and quesadillas.

Even if you eat a restaurant meal, you don't need to consume a lot of calories and fats. Portion sizes in restaurants are notoriously huge; exercise some restraint by eating only half of your entree and carrying the rest home to use as a second meal later.
