0 Knock off a Few Years with Wrinkle Treatments

By Anne Fennell

Cosmetic treatments have advanced tremendously in the recent years, particularly when it comes to the treatment for facial wrinkles. It appears that we now live in a society where face wrinkles place you in a category of being 'old', and with more and more people now on the search for younger looking skin.

What is the process of wrinkle treatments like? There are a lot of choices in where to receive these procedures, but what should a person know when considering treatment? Here we take a closer look at wrinkle treatments in general.

What are wrinkle treatments?

Damage to our skin can come from a variety of sources, pollutants in the atmosphere coming from vehicle exhaust, potentially harmful UV exposure from the sun, smoke, many things contribute to this. This damage can result in the formation of fine lines on the skin called wrinkles, which can be cosmetically unpleasant to look at, especially if there are too many.

Removing wrinkles is achieved by using botulinum toxin, as it is an effective wrinkle treatment. Other treatments can include chemical peels, laser treatments and even just plain old skin creams. While all of these are often used, it appears that botox injections are now becoming more and more popular. There are those who use less effective products such as anti-wrinkle creams that have expensive ad campaigns backing them.

Which is the most effective treatment?

This is a matter of debate right now, there is no definite answer. Depending on the patient and the type of wrinkles on their face, a treatment that will help them best will be determined and administered. The effectiveness of treatments using botox injections or other dermal fillers is well known, so more and more people appear to be choosing this method.

How long do treatments last for?

This depends on the type of treatment patients decide to have. Skin creams have short lived effects and need repeat application often, sometimes daily to show any effect whatsoever. Botox injections are a dermal filler option that will typically last for months on end.

Price of treatment compared to effectiveness

For treatments such as these, it can't be done for a bargain price. Advanced techniques such as dermal fillers, skin rejuvenation methods and botox injections can cost anywhere from $300 to $3000 (or even more) depending on the person that is performing the procedure. If someone doesn't mind applying skin creams every day and buying more often, this is an option for some. Cost effectiveness can only be calculated over a period of time as each patient may require treatments at different times. It looks like for treatment of facial wrinkles, dermal fillers such as botox treatments are the most economical, in the big picture. There are also some doctors who make the claim that the most economical means of reducing wrinkles is by CO2 laser.

Downtime following procedures

No recovery time is necessary for skin creams. Microdermabrasion looks right now to likely be the quickest healing procedure of the specialized treatments available. Having said that, this does not make microdermabrasion the best treatment as multiple treatments are required that can be rather uncomfortable to the patient.

Synopsis

There are a lot of choices available for the treatment of facial wrinkles. There are both good and bad points for each kind of treatment. The ultimate choice will depend on the patient, what they can afford, what they are prepared to undergo and the experience of the treating healthcare professional.
