0 Weight Loss Using Vitamins B12 and B6

By Lenai Headley

Vitamins are crucial for optimal function of the body, this is widely accepted in the medical community. Food is a source of many different types of vitamins, and even sunlight can be a source, as some vitamins are synthesized and absorbed by the skin. The B vitamins in particular are important in a number of metabolic processes that occur within our body. More recently however, there has been interest in vitamin B12 and vitamin B6 in particular, as they are now considered to play an important role in weight loss.

Let's take a look at this in a bit closer and assess how exactly they can help.

B12 Vitamin

Cobalt is one of the elements in the structure of B!2, so another name for it is cobolamine. The nervous system and brain are 2 of the more essential organs in the body that this water-soluble vitamin plays a crucial role in, as well as other systems as well. Those who do not have enough B12 in their system can suffer from anemia, as this vitamin is crucial in the formation of haemoglobin.

B12 vitamins come from many sources, including many products made from animals. Vegetarians are more likely to have a lack of B12 in their diet because of this. Exhaustion and lethargy are signs that a person could possibly be deficient in vitamin B12. Patients who receive vitamin B12 injections find it helps raise them to their optimal level of energy, and it can greatly help reduce the feelings of exhaustion that a patient may have.

Vitamin B12 as a weight-loss drug

People have been recently analyzing whether vitamin B12 supplements can achieve better results for those seeking weight loss treatments. Studies at this time have not confirmed this is a definite benefit. Weight loss can actually happen because of a lack of vitamin B12 for some, and B12 supplements have been known to assist patients that are trying to put on weight. It is known that vitamin B12 is needed for transforming carbohydrates into usable sugars in the body. The argument about whether this enhances weight loss is ongoing.

It has to be borne in mind that taking vitamin supplements over and above what the body requires can actually be harmful. Vitamin B12 that is taken into the body in the form of food has not been documented to have hurt anyone, but injecting the supplement can cause harm, if done improperly. The body has a certain capacity for absorbing vitamins and nutrients, and if too much of anything is ingested they no longer are beneficial.

B6 Vitamin

Vitamin B6 is also called pyridoxine and like vitamin B12 is a water-soluble vitamin. Vitamin B6 is contained within the body in many forms, which are elements of bodily processes. Vitamin B6 is essential for the breakdown and use of protein molecules (amino acids) and also in the synthesis of glucose within the body. Fats are also assisted in being broken down by this.

This vitamin is in much of people's diets naturally, as B6 can be found in meat, different nuts, vegetables and grains. The symptoms that someone is deficient in vitamin B6 could include inflammation of the cheeks and or tongue, and skin diseases, among other things.

Vitamin B6 as a weight-loss drug

There is a lack of solid proof at this time that vitamin B6 is linked to weight loss, similar to how B12 is regarded. When the body burns extra fat and breaks down food, it is known that vitamin B6 is an important part of this process, as the metabolism of lipids is stimulated by this.

The thyroid gland can be overly stimulated by having exceedingly high B6 levels in the body, so this must be carefully considered. Weight loss could happen with too much B6, but it's dangerous so no one should attempt to do so.

Conclusion

Both of these vitamins B6, and B12 are incredibly important for the body to function optimally. There are no studies that conclusively say that they are linked directly to weight loss. People need to think about the best ways to be healthy and shed weight, including having sensible diet, and getting enough physical activity.
