Many people make a weight loss resolution at New Years. But, it is hard to keep up with this goal, especially if you do not have a concrete plan.

To help with losing weight, look into other forms of getting around rather than using your car. Walking, biking, skating and other modes of travel will help to burn off excess calories. You are burning the calories that have been stored in your body all day long. You can take preventative measures by burning these calories.

When losing weight, get exercise into your routine. If you've got the money and time, sign up for a gym membership. Look for fun options at the gym like, spinning, aerobics or Pilates. Talk with your doctor before beginning a health program. Some exercises can be completed at home, which is convenient and effective.

Avoid food near bedtime to help keep the weight off. Do not eat right before going to bed: you will not burn any of these calories and they will be stored as fat. During the evening, try to do something productive such as exercising or reading.

Add whole foods and grains to your diet to lose weight. You can research about whole grain choices, or ask a dietician. Opt for foods that have not been enriched or refined. Look for foods that advertise whole grains in the ingredients. Once you learn the basics, it will be easier to shop for wholesome foods.

Use whipped butter products. Using a butter substitute is not an acceptable alternative to some people. Some people prefer how real butter tastes. Thankfully, it's not necessary to completely eliminate butter from your diet to drop some pounds. A great alternative is whipped butter. It only has about half the calories.

A staple in any weight loss plan is yogurt. Try choosing plain or raw yogurt. Along with a freshly sliced cucumber and some salt and pepper for seasoning, plain yogurt is the perfect ingredient for a crisp, refreshing salad. You can also add fresh fruit to plain yogurt and avoid hidden sugars that may be found in some yogurts on the market. Yogurt contains an abundance of calcium, which is needed for good bone health, and it's a yummy snack option.

Skipping meals causes the body to burn fat more slowly because it thinks food is scarce, making losing weight even harder. If you must miss a regular meal for some reason, have a healthy, substantial snack. Even a small amount of healthy food is better than nothing.

Angel food cake is a great choice for satisfying your dessert cravings. Cravings can he hard to ignore. Angel food cake, as well as some others, are light and airy. Airy cakes tend to have a lower amount of calories, opposed to cakes that are more dense.

Avocados can be a great ally in weight loss because of their richness. They contain a significant amount of fat, but it is a good, healthy unsaturated fat. The richness of avocado makes it a food that will leave you satisfied rather than hungry, and it is a great substitute for those who want to eliminate the unhealthy fat found in meat. A veggie taco that contains avocado as opposed to ground beef has the same taste as its counterpart and it is a much healthy option also.

Make sure that any weight loss goal you set is realistic. Despite what infomercials may say, losing 50 pounds in a week isn't possible. Having realistic goals helps you stay motivated. If your goals are unrealistic, you are doomed to fail. Shoot for losing between 1.5 and 2 pounds weekly.

You should never consider your fork as a shovel. Take moderate mouthfuls of food, chew slowly, and stop eating when you first begin to feel full. If you eat fast, you're probably eating more since your stomach doesn't have an opportunity to let you know that it's full. Losing weight is simple, if you just remember a few tricks.
