People today know that botox injection procedures are fast and easy, and make the skin look more youthful. Botox injections have become commonplace in recent times for those who have facial wrinkles and lines, and would like to attain a more youthful appearance. What was once probably thought to be a procedure whose novelty might wear off one day is nowadays considered to be one that is here to stay.

There are sections in newspapers and magazines and segments on television that are dedicated to celebrities that have had botox in order to make their skin look more youthful. There are those who are thinking about the popularity of botox, and wondering why it has gotten so widely accepted.

Well, the answer is simple really. People realize that botox is low-cost, and works well to make the skin look younger. Unlike plastic surgery, there are no scars after the procedure, it's low-cost, and it takes only a few minutes to have done. Because of the constant coverage by media about celebrity procedures, the public is more aware about botox nowadays.

Botox for men?

Many people think that botox is only something that women are interested in, but this is not true. This is far from the truth. Women are still more likely to get botox than men, but it is becoming more widely accepted for men to receive the treatments as well. Some newspaper reports have even gone to the extent of calling it 'bro-tox'! Some clinics now report that up to 50% of their patients undergoing botox are male!

Changing trends

The fact is, botox usage is going up. In one year, 2010 to 2011, it went up from 5.4 million, to 5.7 million botox patients, so it went up 5% in that year alone. Newer estimates suggest an annual rise of around 10% every year. Most people see these numbers and are not surprised by them. There used to be those in society that looked down upon people who have botox treatments, and it was thought to only be done by the richest people, but this is no longer the case, and it is becoming widely accepted by people of all classes and economic situations. This procedure has become quite mainstream and popular.

But that's not all. Botox's applications have advanced from just cosmetic use to management of a variety of clinical conditions that cause muscle spasticity. Some of these conditions include blepharospasm, spastic paraparesis and cerebral palsy in both children and adults. Results have been promising and outcomes have been excellent. Migraines have been known to be reduced using scalp injections of botox, as well as excessive sweating and other issues.

We can all speculate with certainty that botox is only going to rise in acceptance in time. Advancements are constantly being made, and at this time the future prospects are looking quite grand.
